Fluorinated water-and-oil repellents are surface treatment agents featuring perfluorinated or polyfluorinated alkyl chains as the core functional component. Leveraging the extremely low surface energy of C–F bonds, they construct a molecular-level protective barrier on substrates such as fibers, leather, and paper. This imparts outstanding dual repellency—both hydrophobic and oleophobic—causing water droplets and oil stains to bead up and roll off, maintaining cleanliness with a simple wipe. Crucially, this is achieved without blocking fiber pores, preserving the material’s inherent breathability, soft hand feel, and original appearance. These characteristics make them indispensable for high-performance textiles, premium leather goods, food-grade oil-resistant packaging, and outdoor protective equipment.

Unlike conventional water repellents that only resist water, fluorinated repellents provide comprehensive protection against both water-based and oil-based stains. Liquids such as soy sauce, coffee, and cooking oil quickly contract into beads on treated surfaces, greatly minimizing stain penetration and easing cleaning. Treated fabrics retain excellent protective performance even after multiple washes or dry cleaning cycles, demonstrating remarkable durability.

In application, fluorinated water-and-oil repellents are widely used for the three-proof finishing (water, oil, stain) of cotton, polyester, nylon, and their blends—serving outdoor sportswear, workwear uniforms, and home textiles. They are also applied to genuine and synthetic leather to enhance stain resistance, durability, and aesthetics, and in molded pulp tableware and fast-food packaging papers to provide food-contact-compliant grease barriers.
